The Grammar of Ornament

The administration has pronounced white lilies and honeysuckle better looking than mud puddles.   The masses counter with toddlers boots splashing, for sanity’s sake.   The administration goes on to affirm daffodils and irises dandier than dandelions.   The multitudes cry back summer sunshine crowns, for god’s sake.   In closing, the administration decrees narcissus and primrose victorious over 2 nd hand clothing.   The mob pleads loudly reduce reuse recycle, for Mother’s sake. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/700091?searchField=All&sortBy=Relevance&ft=The+ornament+of+grammar&offset=0&rpp=20&pos=2

I Am

I am an ocean storm Wayward when I should be leeward Spraying spindrift into my own eyes Pounding elegant, gilded shores with my tumult Expecting it to give way to my brazen demands I am a hushed lagoon So close to freedom I can taste its tang on my tongue Incarcerated inland instead My docile, mirror blue surface Covering depths I’ve no energy to explore anymore   I am a clammy swamp Rabid water chomping on my disrobed roots Identity indecision evident Half myself, half a stranger, half dead Hurdling, blushing, towards the abyss
